Iran has found itself in uncharted territory this year. With Russia out of play in the world oil market, and US sanctions making it nearly impossible for them to sell their oil, they have little reason to care about additional economic sanctions against their country. They still have many people not eating and others barely making it, so more sanctions aren’t going to make that worse.
What they do have however is stalled nuclear programs that are stalled intentionally. They can be started back up at full power with little to no notice. Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) telegram channel informed the world that they stand ready to make the switch if need be. “Iran can immediately return to Emad project and build an atomic bomb if Natanz facilities are attacked.”
The Emad project is a long-range Iranian missile. IRGC-linked Bisimchi Media (Radioman Media) shared a copy of the telegram video on their channel as well. Titled “When Will Iran’s Sleeping Nuclear Warheads Awaken,” the video has a clear message. Speaking directly and with little room for interpretation, they claim that they will be building nuclear weapons very quickly “if the US or the Zionist regime make any stupid mistakes.”
If they feel the need to act, their ballistic missiles have the capability of “turning New York into hellish ruins.” The IRGC also added, “The nuclear facilities of Fordow have been built deep under mountains of Iran and are protected against trench-busting bombs and even nuclear explosion… all infrastructures required for nuclear breakout have been prepared in it.”

Much like any threat from a crazed dictator it has a softer edge to it as well. Iran also claims that the switch can be made for their entire program to be incredibly peaceful, something they would like to do if they can bring back the 2015 nuclear deal. Considering the European Union tabled the idea of further talks back in March, they don’t seem to be very hopeful of that happening anytime soon, unfortunately.
With numerous indirect talks between the US and Iran over the last few years, they remain hopeful that some sort of agreement can be made. They have reviewed the US proposals and made their suggestions as to what changes need to occur. Considering the US government has classified the IRGC as a foreign terrorist entity, it would seem as though those proposals aren’t quite hitting the mark for them.
Foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Kanani issues weekly news conferences. Recently he has claimed “The Iranian side has carefully reviewed the text and presented its views. It is possible that in the near future we can reach a conclusion regarding the timetable for the negotiations. We will probably see a new round of negotiations…it depends entirely on the willingness of the other side, especially the American side. Washington must show that it is ready for a reasonable, logical, and lasting agreement.”
The Iranians have two things on their side that the American government lacks. They don’t care all that much about taking the total victory, and they don’t care about the health and well-being of their people. In their eyes, if Iranian soldiers or civilians must die to preserve the might and strength of Iran, then so be it. A very bleak and USSR-style mindset.
For ‘ol sleepy Joe, he now has a choice. Either push Iran further to see what he can make happen with them, or he can get his delegates to sit with Iranian representatives and find that common ground. Without a deal being reached soon, we could easily find ourselves in a four-way war with China, Russia, and North Korea joining in as well. This likely would quickly destroy the entire northern hemisphere.
