El Paso Wisely Declares a State of Emergency Before Title 42 Expires

El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser has seen enough from the Federal Government when it comes to their response to illegal immigration. Even though Title 42 helped stem the tide of illegal immigrants who crossed into the US, and the number that came to his city, he knows the sleeping dragon levels of illegals he is about to encounter.

As Title 42 could end at any time, he and many other cities, towns, and counties along the border with Mexico brace for a wave of illegals to rush the border unlike anything ever seen before. With most of them screaming for asylum, their cries will be far louder and more numerous than the number of people who can provide them with that help.

By declaring the state of emergency on December 17th, Leeser acknowledged that he simply lacked the resources to keep the people of El Paso safe and opened the city to additional funding and programs from the State of Texas, as well as the Federal Government. With reports as well as video evidence of them popping up through manholes across the city, the mayor is at a loss for where to go from here. This is a lot to handle at once, and it’s not easy coming up with good answers here.

Leeser has seen the easier times with illegal immigration, and now some of the worst he can imagine. As they pour over the border looking for help, with many coming from Venezuela, they have a vastly different way of life, values system, diet, and personality than the Mexican majority that El Paso already has.

This kind of mixture has the potential to very quickly and very easily ramp up into a full-on conflict between rival groups, and with reports of gangs and drugs accompanying many of those sneaking over the border, it can make the reality of the situation that much harder to work with for the El Paso Police.

During the press conference, Leeser drew the line in the sand. “Talking to some of our federal partners they believe that on Wednesday our numbers will go to 4-, 5- or 6,000, and when I asked them, I said do you believe that you guys can handle it today, the answer was no. And when I heard the answer was no, I knew we had to do something right away. We know the influx on Wednesday [December 21] will be incredible it will be huge. On Wednesday our numbers will go from 2,500 to 4,000, 5,000, maybe 6,000.”

Leeser also explained why the state of emergency is beneficial to all. “I said from the beginning that I would call it when I felt that either our asylum seekers or community were not safe. That’s not the way we want to treat people and by calling a state of an emergency it gives us the ability today to be able to do what we couldn’t do until we called it.”

By protecting the people and admitting that this is a rough go, Leeser is ensuring the people of El Paso are ready for whatever hell may come their way on the 21st of December. Considering that people like President Joe Biden think that nothing is wrong and that ending Title 42 is the solution to all our problems, this is a step in the right direction for us as a country, and that having all these new asylum-seeking immigrants will solve the problems here in the US.

The fact of the matter is, it is only going to make things worse. This means more mouths to feed, more unskilled/uncertified labor, and more people trying to cram into already overcrowded centers or cheap housing. Simply put, this is what we needed centuries ago when the west was being built. Not now when we are trying to keep it up to date.
